After qualifying in 1998, Shawqi completed his dental training in general practice and implants placement before entering the NHS hospital service. He has worked in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery units across Ireland and UK. In 2005 he was awarded the prestigious membership of Royal College of Surgeons of England and Ireland, followed by a Fellowship in Oral Surgery and Oral Medicine from the Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland in 2005.
In 2009 he was awarded a medical degree from Barts and the London University to pursue a career in Maxillofacial Surgery. During his training he worked in Respiratory Medicine, Cardiology, General Surgery,Trauma and Orthopaedics, Urology, Vascular surgery and ENT.
Shawqi gained Advanced Life Support, Advanced Trauma Life Support, Sedation certificate, Care of Critically ill Surgical patients and many other certificates.
Shawqi has delivered many lectures to general dental and medical practitioners nationally and internationally and actively contributes to teaching and publications.
He was awarded the Primary Care Oral Surgery service for Harlow and Thurrock and accepts referrals from dental and medical practitioners to carry out complicated oral surgery and dental implants procedures.
He is a clinical mentor in Minor Oral Surgery for the Royal College of Surgeons of England where he teaches dentists surgical procedures.
